Institutional expertise. Personal service.
Institutional expertise. Personal service. Including hands-on AI coaching built specifically for the real estate industry — because knowing where AI can actually help your business is different from being sold another piece of software.
Matthew Foust is the Principal and Founder of Foust Real Estate Advisors, a Washington, DC-based consulting practice serving real estate owners, investors, and property management firms across the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region.
Matthew's career has been built around representing the interests of property owners at the highest level — managing complex assets, overseeing multi-million dollar capital programs, and ensuring that financial and operational interests are protected throughout every phase of ownership. His experience spans commercial office, industrial, mixed-use, and residential property types across the DMV region.
Prior to founding Foust Real Estate Advisors, Matthew held senior roles at JLL, American Real Estate Partners, and Transwestern, where he was trusted by institutional investors including JP Morgan, MetLife, TIAA-CREF, Manulife, Morgan Stanley, and Principal to oversee their most complex assets and projects. He is an active member of the Building Intelligence Group (BIG) and holds an AI Fluency certification from Anthropic.
"The firms most likely to benefit from outside advisory support are those whose teams excel at what they do — and know when to bring in specialized expertise for the rest."
Each engagement is tailored to the specific needs of the client — whether that means a defined project with a clear deliverable, or an ongoing advisory relationship that evolves with the business.
Personalized, one-on-one coaching that helps real estate leaders build real fluency with AI — not a one-time training session, but an ongoing partnership that meets you where you are and builds the habits, judgment, and workflows to use AI well in your actual role.
Real estate businesses know they should be doing something with AI — but knowing where to start, and how to build the organizational capability around it, is the real challenge. As a fractional partner to your business — engaged the way an embedded team member would be, without the overhead of a full-time hire — I evaluate your current systems and workflows, train your team, and help you build the structure and judgment to use AI as a durable business asset.
Our experience was built managing the most complex assets for the nation's leading institutional investors. That expertise is now available to owners and firms of every size — with the personal attention and accountability that only a boutique practice can provide.
Every engagement is approached from the owner's point of view — protecting their investment, maximizing their return, and ensuring that their interests are represented at every step. We are not a vendor. We are an advisor.
With deep roots in the Washington, DC real estate market and established relationships across the region's ownership, management, and regulatory communities, we bring local knowledge that national firms simply cannot replicate.
Our coaching framework is backed by deliberate, ongoing study: an Anthropic AI Fluency certification, training through the Stanford Digital Transformation program, and active involvement with the Building Intelligence Group. That formal foundation is paired with continuous, close study of the practitioners and researchers shaping how organizations actually adopt AI — keeping the approach current, not academic.
Whether you have a specific project in mind or are simply exploring whether there's an opportunity to work together, we welcome the conversation. No pressure, no pitch — just a straightforward discussion about your needs and how we might help.
